Prayagraj, May 29 The Allahabad High Court on Friday rejected the anticipatory bail application of Shalini Srivastava, the Basic Education Officer of Deoria, in connection with the suicide of an assistant teacher.
The order was issued by Justice Vikram D Chauhan, who denied the bail application submitted by Srivastava, the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA).
The assistant teacher, Krishna Mohan Singh, took his own life by hanging from a fan, leaving behind a suicide note.
An FIR was filed by Gudia Singh, the deceased's wife, alleging that her husband was appointed as an assistant teacher at Krishak Laghu Madhyamik Vidyalaya in Madarsan, Gauri Bazaar, Deoria, on July 1, 2016, and that this appointment had been approved.
In 2023, based on various allegations regarding his service, Krishna's appointment was wrongfully cancelled. Along with him, the appointments of two other assistant teachers, Omkar Singh and Aparna Tiwari, were also cancelled, the FIR read.
In response, Krishna and the other two teachers filed a writ petition in the high court, which ruled in favour of Singh on April 4, 2022. However, the District Basic Education Officer of Deoria subsequently terminated the teachers again, with orders dated March 24, 2023, and April 1, 2023.
Challenging those orders, Krishna and the other teachers filed another petition. In a ruling dated February 13, the high court quashed the earlier termination orders and directed the Basic Shiksha Adhikari to issue fresh orders.
Despite the court's directive, no new order was produced.
Sanjeev Singh, a clerk in the office of the Basic Education Officer, allegedly demanded Rs 16 lakh from all three teachers, threatening that if the amount was not paid, the previous termination orders would be reinstated, the FIR read.
As a result, Krishna and the other teachers paid the demanded sum. Nevertheless, further demands for money were allegedly made by Shalini Srivastava through her clerk, Sanjeev Singh.
When Krishna expressed his inability to pay more and requested a refund of the money already paid, he was called to the Deoria office by Srivastava and Singh on February 20, 2026. During this visit, he was allegedly subjected to severe humiliation, harassment, and threats of being framed in a false case.
Distressed and tormented by the harassment, Krishna ended his life by hanging from a fan on the intervening night of February 20-21, 2026.
After reviewing the record and the arguments presented by counsel, the court rejected the anticipatory bail application on May 27, 2026.
