Ajmer: 8 get three years in jail for assaulting man, severing his nose

Jaipur, Apr 20 A court in Rajasthan's Ajmer on Monday sentenced eight accused to three years of rigorous imprisonment for allegedly abducting and assaulting a man and severing his nose.


Superintendent of Police Harsh Vardhan Agarwala said the incident occurred on March 18, 2023, when the victim Hamid Khan was abducted from Ansal City, Chandiyawas, by the accused.


The victim was taken to Maroth, where he was brutally assaulted with sticks and rods, and his nose was severed with a sharp weapon. The accused also recorded a video of the act before dumping him near Nava Chauraha and fleeing, police said.


Given the seriousness of the crime, a police team led by then SHO Sunil Kumar Beda arrested all the accused within 12 hours of the incident, the SP said.


The court of Judicial Magistrate No. 02, Ajmer, on Monday convicted all eight accused, including Prakash Khan, Aziz Khan, Iqbal Khan, Hussain Momin, Ameen, Salim and Saraj, under charges of abduction, attempt to murder and causing grievous injuries.


It also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on each of the convicts.


The case was taken up under the 'Case Officer Scheme' to ensure effective investigation and prosecution. Assistant Sub-Inspector Kamal Kishore was appointed as the case officer and pursued the matter in court, he said.


The SP said the swift investigation and strong prosecution ensured conviction in the case, highlighting the effectiveness of the Case Officer Scheme in dealing with heinous crimes.
