Kokrajhar (Assam), May 15 A court in Assam's Kokrajhar district on Friday sentenced a person to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually abusing a minor four years ago.
The court of Additional Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge, Nurjamal Haque, also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict, failing to pay which he would have to undergo another six months of jail term.
Officials said the accused, Mohar Ali, a resident of Kamlachara village in Kokrajhar police station area, was convicted in the case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in 2022. Ali, in his twenties, had sexually abused a 15-year-old girl in a jute field on the banks of Gaurang River at Kathalguri village that year.
The parents of the victim had lodged an FIR at the Kokrajhar police station, which led to his apprehension.
