Bareilly violence: Allahabad HC to continue hearing Maulana Tauqeer Raza’s bail plea on Friday

Prayagraj, Mar 12 The Allahabad High Court will continue hearing on bail applications moved by Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan and others accused in last year’s Bareilly violence case on Friday, officials said.

Justice Ashutosh Srivastava is hearing the bail applications of Tauqeer Raza and several others. Raza has been in jail since October 13, 2025, in connection with the case.

On September 26 last year, clashes broke out in Bareilly between police and a large crowd that gathered outside a mosque after Friday prayers, allegedly after a call given by Raza, even after police denied permission for a demonstration.

Despite prohibitory orders in force, a crowd of about 200-250 people gathered and proceeded from the Maulana Azad Inter College towards the Shyamganj Chauraha.

The protesters allegedly pelted stones at the security personnel, prompting police to resort to a lathi charge to control the situation. Some alleged that gunshots were also fired by the protesters.

According to the FIR, two police officers sustained injuries in the clashes.

More than 90 people have been arrested in the case, many of them for allegedly conspiring to incite riots “under the guise of protests”.
