Chakankar gave clean chit to music director, her son later got work in his film: Andhare

Mumbai, Mar 27 Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare on Friday claimed that former Maharashtra State Commission for Women chairperson Rupali Chakankar absolved music director Anu Malik in a sexual harassment case, and later her son featured in a film produced by him.

While Malik denied the allegation of giving work to the NCP leader's son and stated that he himself had got a clean chit from the National Commission for Women too, Chakankar did not respond to calls seeking her reaction.

During her tenure as chairperson of the state women's commission, Chakankar received complaints of sexual harassment against the Bollywood music director from two or three women, Andhare told reporters.

"Anu Malik was given a clean chit. After that, Soham Chakankar, Rupali Chakankar's son, got work in a film by Anu Malik's production," the Sena (UBT) leader claimed.

When contacted by PTI, Malik said he was given a clean chit first by the NCW, and then by the Maharashtra women's commission.

He had done nothing wrong, the music director said, adding, "I have not given any work and done no favours to anyone. There was no role given to any person (as alleged by Andhare)."

Last week, Chakankar, appointed as chairperson of the women's commission in 2021, resigned after her association with rape-accused 'godman' Ashok Kharat came to light. Kharat, accused of sexual exploitation by multiple women, has been arrested in a rape case.
