New Delhi, May 30 The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the Centre to consider extending an environmental management plan for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here to other government hospitals in the national capital.
The green body was hearing a matter related to checking air pollution in and around the premier healthcare institution.
While entrusting the responsibility of adopting measures required to reduce air pollution inside the campus to the medical institute's director, the tribunal also constituted a panel headed by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to study identical issues at several other government hospitals in the national capital and issue appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
In an order dated May 21 made available on Saturday, a bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert members A Senthil Vel and Afroz Ahmad noted that the ministry had submitted an environmental management plan.
The bench said, "A perusal of the plan indicates that, though it is titled as 'Environmental Management Plan for Hospitals', it is with specific reference to AIIMS, Delhi. Therefore, respondent 7 (ministry) may consider the feasibility of extending the said plan with requisite modifications to other government hospitals also."
