Rangia (Assam), Jun 26 A court here on Friday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering a person in Assam's Kamrup district.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Rangia, Mukul Chetia, pronounced the verdict against Bipul Baro, a resident of Baredola village under Baihata Chariali police station.
Additional public prosecutor Debojit Saikia said the sentence was delivered in the murder case of one Bhadreswar Rajbongshi, who was killed on March 26, 2015.
Baro has been handed life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000, failing to pay which he will have to spend an additional one month of simple imprisonment, Saikia added.
Saikia said there was a dispute between the two over a monetary matter, leading Baro to assault Rajbongshi with an iron rod and injure him grievously.
Rajbongshi was admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital by his wife, but he succumbed to the injuries.
"The wife registered a police complaint, based on which the investigation was carried out. And the final verdict was delivered today," the additional public prosecutor said.
