New Delhi, Mar 10 A Delhi motor accident claims tribunal has awarded Rs 39.13 lakh as compensation to the parents of a 21-year-old man who died in a road accident in Gurugram in 2020.

Presiding officer Deepika Singh was hearing a claim petition filed by the parents of Ved Prakash Pandey, who was killed after a truck hit his bike on December 12, 2020, in Gurugram.

In the order dated March 7, the tribunal said, “It stands duly proved that the accident in question took place due to rash and negligent driving of the offending vehicle by Respondent No. 1 (truck driver).”

The court also noted that the truck did not have a fitness certificate.

While determining the compensation, the tribunal assessed the deceased’s monthly income at Rs 25,000, noting that he was a 21-year-old undergraduate who also completed a fitter course and would have earned at least that amount at the entry level.

It then awarded Rs 39.13 lakh as compensation to the family of the deceased under various heads.

The court noted that the truck was insured at the time of the incident, and directed the insurer to pay the compensation amount to the deceased.
