Mumbai, June 10 The NIA on Wednesday moved a special court here seeking cancellation of the bail of Elgar Parishad case accused Vernon Gonsalves and Arun Ferriera, alleging that they violated bail conditions by attending an event earlier this year.
Last month, the central agency had moved pleas for the revocation of the bail of co-accused Sudha Bharadwaj and Varavara Rao, alleging they attended an event at the Mumbai Press Club with the intention to propagate Maoist ideology.
The National Investigation Agency's latest plea, filed through special prosecutor Prakash Shetty, cited the same ground as Gonsalves and Ferriera had attended the same event on January 19.
The event had been convened with the intention of propagating the ideology of the banned CPI (Maoist) and to discuss the future course of action for spreading the "Urban Naxal" movement, the probe agency claimed.
While granting bail to the accused, the trial court had imposed a slew of conditions, including not leaving Mumbai without the court's permission, surrendering their passports to the NIA, and not to speak to the media about the case.
Their participation in the January 19 event was in clear contravention of the bail conditions which also prohibit them from engaging in meetings or activities that may further the objectives of banned organizations or pose a threat to public order and national security, the NIA said.
The special court for NIA cases will hear the probe agency's applications on June 19.
Meanwhile, on prosecution's request, the court on Wednesday issued a proclamation order against absconding accused and alleged Maoist leaders Prakash alias Ritupan Goswami and Mupalla Laxman Rao alias Ganapathy.
The case relates to alleged inflammatory speeches made at the Elgar Parishad conclave held in Pune on December 31, 2017, which the police claimed triggered violence the next day near the Koregaon Bhima war memorial.
The Pune police, which probed the case initially, also claimed that the organisers of the conclave had Maoist links.
The NIA later took over the probe in the case. Most of the accused are currently out on bail.
