Four get life imprisonment in 2015 murder case in UP's Gonda

Gonda (UP), Jun 19 A court in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district on Friday sentenced four persons to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of a man during a village pradhan election campaign 11 years ago.


The court also imposed a fine of Rs 70,500 on each of the convicts and ordered additional imprisonment in case of default in payment.


According to the prosecution, Arvind, a resident of Chaukhadiya village in the Nawabganj area, had lodged an FIR in 2015 saying that his sister-in-law was contesting the gram pradhan election.


During the election campaign, his brother and supporters were going around the village, seeking votes when members of the rival group allegedly attacked them due to an old enmity, the complainant said.


Several people were seriously injured in the attack. Among them was Triyugi Narayan Pathak (40), who later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.


During the investigation, the police filed a charge-sheet against against Dilip, Dharmendra Pratap alias Gabbu, Dasha Sumer and Maan, all residents of Chaukhadiya Dihwa village.


Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court) Vikas found all four accused guilty under charges, including murder, a prosecution officer said.


Based on the evidence on record, witness statements and prosecution arguments, the court convicted Dilip, Dharmendra Pratap alias Gabbu, Dasha Sumer and Maan and sentenced them to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 70,500 each, the officer added.
