HC grants bail to Harshvardhan who ran fake embassy in Ghaziabad

Prayagraj, Apr 15 The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to Harshvardhan Jain who is accused of posing as a diplomat and operating a fake embassy of fictitious nations from a rented house in Ghaziabad district.

Jain was arrested last year for running the con in Ghaziabad's Kavi Nagar area.

In the April 2 order, Justice Srivastava observed, "Considering all those facts and circumstances, the nature of accusations, severity of the punishment in the case of conviction and nature of supporting evidence, reasonable apprehension of tampering with the witness and prima facie case, but without commenting on merit of case, a case for bail is made out.

"Accordingly, the bail application is allowed," the order read.

Allegedly, Jain presented himself as a consul or ambassador of non-existent countries like Westarctica, Saborga, Poulvia, and Lodonia, UP Additional Director General of Police (law & order) Amitabh Yash said.

Jain was also accused of using diplomatic number plates on his vehicles and defrauding people in the name of employment.
