Gurugram, Apr 22 A special POCSO court in Haryana's Nuh on Wednesday sentenced a man, convicted of raping and murdering a three-year-old girl, to life imprisonment, officials said.
According to the police, the incident occurred in November 2024 in a village under Pingawan police station.
The accused, a member of the girl's family, lured the toddler to an isolated, hilly area near the village, where he raped her before murdering her brutally.
The incident sparked outrage in the area.
The police took immediate action and a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The accused was arrested. Subsequently, police gathered forensic evidence, medical reports, and other evidence, and filed a chargesheet, based on which, the special POCSO court of Sanjeev Tinjan convicted the accused on April 18, police said.
On Wednesday, the special court sentenced the convict to life imprisonment, besides imposing a fine of Rs 1.30 lakh.
Local residents have welcomed the decision and appreciated the effective prosecution and investigation by the police, the police spokesperson said.
