Sultanpur (UP), May 15 Hearing in a case involving former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and poet Kumar Vishwas, former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain and MLA Somnath Bharti was on Friday deferred in a special MP/MLA court here due to technical and procedural reasons, officials said.

As no substantial proceedings could take place, the court fixed June 5 as the next date of hearing.

During the previous hearing on May 1, the court had issued summons to all the accused and directed them to appear on May 15.

The case pertains to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. During that period, a case was registered against the leaders at Amethi police station. Police later completed the investigation and filed a chargesheet.

Initially, the matter was pending before a court in Musafirkhana. Recently, it was transferred to the special MP/MLA court in Sultanpur.

Advocate Madan Pratap Singh said the court had issued summons to the three leaders. However, during Friday's hearing, the court had not yet received a report confirming whether the summons had been served on the accused.

During the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the AAP had fielded Kumar Vishwas against Rahul Gandhi from the Amethi parliamentary constituency.

Police had registered a case against Kumar Vishwas, Satyendar Jain, Somnath Bharti and other leaders during the election campaign on charges of violating the Model Code of Conduct and holding public meetings and demonstrations without permission.
