Thane, May 11 The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in Thane has awarded total compensation of more than Rs 31 lakh to three members of a family who were severely injured in a road accident in Pune district.
In three separate orders passed on May 8, Tribunal Member KP Shrikhande directed the owner of the offending truck and Reliance General Insurance Co. Ltd. to jointly and severally pay the compensation with 9 per cent interest per annum.
The accident occurred on November 26, 2021 on the Pune-Solapur Service Road under Indapur police station limits. Mathurabai Baban Babare (60), her grandson Arya Rupesh Babare (14) and relative Mahi Kesarinath Patil (18) were hit by a speeding truck.
The evidence clearly proves that the accident occurred due to the sole negligence of the driver of the truck, with the spot panchnama and FIR corroborating that the victims were off the main road when they were hit, the MACT order said.
The insurance policy was valid on the date of the accident and there is no evidence To show there was any breach of terms and conditions of the policy by the owner, it added.
The MACT ordered compensation of Rs 13.97 lakh to Mahi Kesarinath Patil, Rs 11,14 lakh to Arya Babare and Rs 6.61 lakh to Mathurabai Babare.
