Man gets life imprisonment for murder over farm road dispute

Latur (Maharashtra), Jun 19 The Sessions Court at Nilanga in the district has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering a villager over a dispute over a farm road.


Additional Sessions Judge S B Pawar, in an order pronounced on June 17, convicted Sambhaji Govind Ghotale, a resident of Talikhed village in Nilanga tehsil.


The court awarded him life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him for the murder. The fine amount should be paid to the victim's legal heirs, the judge said.


According to the prosecution, the accused assaulted Bharat Chander Ghotale with a stick and strangled him to death following an argument over a road used for movement through agricultural fields.


The prosecution examined seven witnesses during the trial, with the testimonies of eyewitnesses and the medical officer playing a key role in securing the conviction.


Additional Public Prosecutor Kapil Pandharikar represented the state.
