Shimla, June 3 The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued a notice to pharma company Morepen Laboratories Limited over alleged environmental violations at its manufacturing facility in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh.
The principal bench of NGT, comprising Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, and Dr Afroz Ahmad (expert member), took cognisance after hearing the Original Application filed by a local, Lekh Singh, a release issued here said.
The applicant alleged that the pharmacy unit operating in Tiron village, Kasaui Tehsil, was generating noise pollution beyond permissible limits. He claimed that the plant’s generator and industrial machinery were responsible for the excessive noise.
He relied on the noise monitoring report to support his allegations.
The applicant also accused the pharma unit of diverting the irrigation water for industrial purposes without authorisation.
During the proceedings, counsel for the applicant said that a civil suit was also filed against Morepen Ltd before the Civil Judge at Kasauli. However, the bench held that the suit was not maintainable because an appropriate remedy lies before the green tribunal.
The tribunal has given the pharma company four weeks to file its reply.
The bench directed the applicant to serve copies of the application and its enclosures on all other respondents and file an affidavit of service at least one week before the next hearing on September 10, 2026.
