Punjab and Haryana High Court Denies Bail in Major Human Trafficking Case

Gagandeep Singh and Associates Denied Bail Amidst Serious Human Trafficking Allegations and International Implications

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has rejected the bail applications of Gagandeep Singh, also known as Goldy, and his associates in a high-profile human trafficking case. The case, investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), involves serious allegations of running a large-scale human trafficking racket through illegal immigration routes to the USA.

The court, presided over by Justices Gurvinder Singh Gill and Ramesh Kumari, determined that the gravity of the charges and the international ramifications of the offenses warranted the denial of bail. The court emphasized the seriousness of the allegations, which include using the notorious "Dunky Route" for illegal immigration to the United States via Spain, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico.

The investigation revealed that Gagandeep Singh, without authorization, was operating as an immigration agent. He, along with his associates, allegedly facilitated the illegal migration of individuals by extracting large sums of money, amounting to over 36 crores from more than 150 victims. These transactions were corroborated by victim statements, digital evidence, and bank records.

The NIA's probe highlighted that the accused exploited victims by promising legal immigration and then subjected them to harsh conditions and extortion by foreign associates during their journey. The victims were often detained, harassed, and forced to cross borders illegally, leading to their arrest or deportation.

The defense argued for the appellants' release, citing a lack of criminal antecedents and questioning the reliability of witness testimonies. However, the court found the evidence against the accused compelling, noting the large-scale operation of the trafficking network and the financial transactions supporting the allegations.

The court directed the trial to proceed expeditiously, urging the prosecution to ensure the presence of witnesses to facilitate a swift conclusion. The decision underscores the judiciary's stance against human trafficking and the protection of victims' rights.

Bottom Line:

Bail application in human trafficking case dismissed due to seriousness of allegations and international ramifications. Accused running large-scale human trafficking racket through illegal "Dunky Route" with evidence from victim statements, digital proof, and bank transactions.
