Rajasthan High Court Directs Re-evaluation of Outstanding Sports Person Claims in Nursing Officer Recruitment

Court mandates state to reassess candidates' sports achievements in accordance with established recruitment policies.

Jaipur, 15 December 2025 – In a significant development, the Rajasthan High Court (Jaipur Bench) has issued a directive requiring the State to re-evaluate claims made by candidates under the Outstanding Sports Person Category in the recruitment process for Nursing Officers. The decision comes in response to multiple writ petitions filed by candidates whose applications under this category were previously dismissed.

Justice Ashok Kumar Jain, presiding over the proceedings, emphasized the importance of adhering to state policies and recruitment rules concerning the Outstanding Sports Person Category. The court highlighted that the recruitment agency or examination body is obliged to thoroughly verify the legitimacy of the candidates' sports participation and the recognition of the organizing sports bodies.

The court noted that the recruitment process must consider several factors, including the level of participation, type of event, performance, and recognition of the organizing body. These steps are crucial to ascertain whether a candidate truly qualifies as an outstanding sportsperson, as per the state's recruitment rules.

The judgment referenced previous cases, such as Bhanwar Kumar v. State of Rajasthan and Javed Ali v. State of Rajasthan, where similar issues were addressed, underscoring the importance of fair and consistent evaluation in the recruitment process.

The respondents, representing the State of Rajasthan, are directed to consider representations from the petitioners within four weeks, accompanied by all supporting documents. The court instructed that any rejection must be communicated through a reasoned and speaking order, ensuring transparency and accountability in the process.

This judgment has the potential to impact a broad spectrum of candidates seeking recognition under the Outstanding Sports Person Category, ensuring that their sports achievements are appropriately acknowledged in state recruitment processes.

Bottom Line:

Recruitment - Outstanding Sports Person Category - Candidates claiming under this category need to have their participation and the recognition of organizing sports bodies verified in accordance with the State policy and recruitment rules.
