Gurugram, May 26 An SIT has been constituted to probe the fire in the record room of the Gurugram District and Sessions Court Complex, as case files were shifted on Tuesday from the old court complex to the PWD Rest House where court proceedings are being held as a temporary arrangement.
Court proceedings went smoothly at the PWD Rest House on Tuesday, the official said.
A fire broke out in the record room on Sunday afternoon, and rapidly spread to other rooms in the court causing a portion of the building to collapse. No casualties were reported in the blaze.
Hearings in urgent and essential matters were conducted as scheduled on Tuesday, while necessary arrangements were also put in place for advocates and litigants, an official statement said.
The crime unit and forensic teams, meanwhile, carried out a detailed inspection of the site and initiated investigation into the cause of the fire.
A seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted under the leadership of ACP Sadar Dharambir Singh to probe the fire. The SIT will function under the supervision of DCP West Karan Goel.
Gurugram Bar Association president Chandra Kant Sharma said the priority was to ensure judicial proceedings continue without interruption and that the public does not face any difficulty.
He appealed to people not to pay heed to rumours or misinformation, asserting that all judicial work is being conducted in an organised and systematic manner.
The bar association is working in coordination with the administration and judiciary to ensure uninterrupted court functioning, he said.
District and Sessions Judge Narender Sura said all efforts are being made to ensure that citizens do not face inconvenience due to the fire.
Reconstruction of records and alternative arrangements for judicial proceedings are being accorded the highest priority, he said.
Functioning of nearly 21 courts operating from the old court building had been affected due to the fire and so judicial work was shifted to the PWD Rest House.
The inspecting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Ashwini Kumar Mishra, inspected the court complex on Sunday.
