TN DVAC registers FIR in cash-for-jobs scam in Municipal Administration dept

Chennai, Jun 5 The Tamil Nadu government informed the Madras High Court on Friday that the DVAC has registered an FIR in connection with the cash-for-jobs scam in the state Municipal Administration and Water Supply department.

Advocate General Vijay Narayan submitted before the court that the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption had already registered an FIR in connection with the multi-crore bribery case relating to the appointments to the Municipal Administration and Water Supply department.

Following the submission, the Bench comprising Chief Justice S A Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan asked the state not to take any action till June 23 against former state minister K N Nehru pertaining to the case.

On February 20, the bench had directed the DVAC to register a case based on the materials shared by the Enforcement Directorate. The court had also criticised the delay on the part of the state in proceeding with the investigation even after the Enforcement Directorate had shared particulars, which prima facie showed the commission of an offence.

Based on the Enforcement Directorate's communication, AIADMK MP I S Inbadurai had moved the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the DVAC to register a case.

Meanwhile, Nehru filed a review petition challenging the earlier order directing the registration of the case. Senior counsel Aravind Pandian, who appeared for Nehru, told the court that in spite of pending contempt and review proceedings, the DVAC had gone ahead and registered the FIR.
