Kochi, May 19 The Kerala High Court on Tuesday issued notice to the state government and the Cochin and Thiruvambady Devaswoms on the Thrissur firecracker incident that claimed 17 lives.
A bench of Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Syam Kumar V M directed the government and the Devaswom Boards to give an explanation regarding the incident by June 16.
The court issued the direction on a petition initiated by it on its own.
Of the 38 people present at the firecracker manufacturing site, 17 died in the April 21 incident.
The fireworks were being manufactured for Thiruvambady Devaswom as part of the Thrissur Pooram festivities.
Following the incident, Thrissur Pooram celebrations were scaled down.
