Bhopal, Jun 16 A court in Bhopal on Tuesday extended by 14 days the judicial custody of late model Twisha Sharma's husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law Giribala Singh, both accused of dowry harassment, after the CBI said it was examining the evidence and awaiting the second autopsy report.
Ankur Pandey, the lawyer representing Twisha's family, told PTI that both accused joined the hearing, which was held in the court of Judge Shobhana Bhalave, virtually from the Bhopal Central Jail.
The Central Bureau of Investigation had requested an extension of judicial custody until June 30, which the court accepted, he said.
Twisha was found hanging in her marital home in Bhopal on May 12. Amid allegations of lapses in the initial probe against the police, the investigation was transferred to the central probe agency.
Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh, a former judge, were booked on charges related to dowry harassment and cruelty.
The court, on June 2, remanded both accused to judicial custody for 14 days till June 16.
Anurag Srivastava, another lawyer representing Twisha's family, said the CBI had sought an extension of judicial custody by 14 days.
"The CBI investigation is still ongoing, and it informed the court that statements of several individuals are yet to be recorded," he told PTI Videos.
The CBI told the court that the electronic evidence and forensic reports received so far are still being examined, while some reports, including the one on the second postmortem of Twisha's body, have not yet been received.
A team of doctors from AIIMS Delhi conducted the second autopsy in Bhopal on May 24, following which she was cremated, 12 days after her death, under suspicious circumstances, which sparked outrage.
According to Srivastava, the CBI informed the court that, as the investigation is progressing, these individuals (Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh) may need to be questioned again.
Twisha's first post-mortem report stated that her death was caused by "antemortem hanging by ligature" and her body bore "multiple antemortem injuries (simple in nature, possible by blunt force over other parts of the body have been noted)".
After receiving this report and recording statements of the family members of the deceased actor-model, the police registered the FIR on May 15.
In their statements, Twisha's family members had alleged that she was tormented by her in-laws, who were not satisfied with the dowry paid at the time of marriage on December 9, 2025.
They had accused her in-laws of mental torture and domestic violence, and pushing the 33-year-old to take the extreme step.
In the statement given to the police at the time of filing the FIR, Twisha's family said she had spoken to her mother at 9.41 pm.
During the call, her husband was heard shouting, and the call was abruptly disconnected. After repeated calls, Giribala Singh picked up the phone and told Twisha's sister-in-law that "she is no more" and disconnected the call, as per the FIR based on the statement.
