Nainital, Apr 16 The Uttarakhand High Court directed the district administration on Thursday to take appropriate action regarding ongoing protests outside a licenced liquor shop in Nainital district.
The single-judge bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari issued the directions while hearing a petition filed by local businessman Suresh Chandra Upreti.
Upreti stated he holds a valid licence for the retail sale of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). He alleged that certain individuals are staging protests outside his shop.
The petitioner added that these protests were affecting his business and raised concerns about potential untoward incidents at the site.
The State counsel informed the court that adequate police protection is being provided to prevent any adverse situation.
The petitioner argued that it is the responsibility of the State to ensure the safety of valid licence holders. He previously submitted a representation to the district magistrate in this regard.
The court directed the Nainital district magistrate to consider the petitioner’s complaint and take an appropriate decision in accordance with the law within three weeks.
