Sultanpur (UP), Mar 29 An MP-MLA court in Sultanpur has deferred the hearing in a case related to alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct by AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on account of Ram Navami holiday, officials said.

The court has fixed April 6 as the next date of hearing in the matter.

Singh's advocate, Madan Singh, said the hearing was scheduled for March 27, but it could not take place due to a holiday for Ram Navami.

The case pertains to a public meeting held on April 13, 2021, at Hasanpur village during the three-tier panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Singh, along with 12 others, has been accused of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and the Epidemic Act while campaigning in favour of AAP candidate Salma Begum.

The local SHO, Praveen Kumar Singh, had filed an FIR accusing Singh of conducting a public meeting at 3.30 pm sans official permission, accompanied by 50-60 people, violating the Epidemic Act and other regulations.

Police had registered the case against Singh, 12 named persons and 45 unidentified supporters, of which 11 were made accused in the case after the investigation.

While the court granted bail to the other accused in the matter, it issued a bailable warrant against Singh for remaining absent during court proceedings for a long period.

In July 2024, Singh had surrendered before the court and was released after furnishing two bail bonds of Rs 20,000 each along with a personal bond.
