Sultanpur (UP), May 1 A special MP-MLA court in this Uttar Pradesh district has summoned former AAP leader Kumar Vishwas and former Delhi ministers Satyendar Jain and Somnath Bharti in connection with alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, officials said on Friday.
Taking cognisance of the case, Special Magistrate Shubham Verma issued summonses to the accused and directed them to appear in the court in person on May 15.
Special Public Prosecutor Kalika Prasad Mishra said the matter dates back to May 6, 2014, when Vishwas was contesting the polls from the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency as an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate.
It is alleged that despite directions from the then station house officer Mohammad Hameed to leave the constituency, as they were not registered voters there, Vishwas and his supporters remained in the area in violation of the Election Commission's (EC) norms, which prohibit the presence of outsiders in a constituency 48 hours before polling.
Police subsequently registered a case against Vishwas, Jain, Bharti and others.
Mishra said the case was earlier pending before the additional chief judicial magistrate's court and was recently transferred to the MP-MLA court. The next hearing is scheduled for May 15, when all accused have been asked to be present before the court.
