Uttarakhand HC directs Nainital municipal body to submit report on city's cleanliness

Nainital, Apr 22 The Uttarakhand High Court on Wednesday directed the executive officer of the Nainital Municipal Council, Rohitash Sharma, to take cognisance of the city's cleanliness and submit a detailed report.

Taking suo-motu (on its own) cognisance of the prevailing insanitary conditions in Nainital during the hearing of a petition, a bench of Justice Rakesh Thapliyal instructed the executive officer to conduct a thorough inspection of the entire city.

The court ordered the official to immediately place dust bins in areas facing a shortage and ensure other necessary arrangements, before submitting the report by the next date of hearing on April 28.

The directions were issued during the hearing of a contempt petition filed by Manoj Kumar. The petitioner had accused the Nainital Municipal Council of failing to comply with a previous court order regarding the payment of his salary for three months of work.

During the proceedings, the executive officer informed the court that the petitioner's representation was settled. He stated that a demand draft for Rs 21,600 was handed over to the petitioner's counsel.
