Chandigarh, May 8 The Punjab and Haryana High Court was assured by the state government on Friday that no coercive action will be taken against Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak without prior permission till next Monday.
The counsel representing the state government gave the assurance when Pathak's petition came up for hearing before the bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu.
The case will be heard next on Monday.
Pathak, who recently defected from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), had moved the high court seeking directions to the Punjab government and police to disclose complete particulars of the two FIRs registered against him.
He also sought directions to restrain the State of Punjab from taking any coercive action against him in pursuance of the said FIRs, during the pendency of his petition.
Pathak was among the seven Rajya Sabha MPs who quit the AAP last month and merged with the BJP.
Earlier, there were reports that the Punjab Police had registered two FIRs against Pathak, but no details about the cases have been disclosed.
Pathak's petition in the high court sought directions to the Punjab government and police to "forthwith disclose" the complete particulars of the two cases registered against him, including the FIR numbers, dates of registration, and the names and addresses of the police stations.
According to the plea, the petitioner came to know through media reports and informal channels that the Punjab Police had registered two FIRs against him in different districts.
Despite diligent efforts, the details of the FIRs have not been provided to him, it said.
It further said that the FIRs have not been uploaded on the official website of the Punjab Police, which is in flagrant violation of the rules mandating such disclosures.
The deliberate concealing of all particulars of the FIRs from the petitioner is part of a calculated "political vendetta" against him, the petition said.
On April 24, the AAP suffered a major jolt when seven of its 10 Rajya Sabha MPs -- Pathak, Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Rajendra Gupta, Vikramjit Sahney and Swati Maliwal -- quit, alleging that Arvind Kejriwal's party had strayed from its principles, values and core morals.
Six of the seven MPs were from Punjab.
All the seven MPs later merged with the BJP.
