Chennai, Jun 30 DMK treasurer T R Baalu on Tuesday withdrew the defamation case he filed against former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai who made corruption allegations in the "DMK files".

Baalu had filed a suit at Saidapet court here demanding Rs 100 crore in compensation from Annamalai for spreading defamation against him by releasing the files levelling corruption allegations against several DMK leaders in 2023.

Annamalai, then president of TN BJP unit, had accused the DMK MP of financial irregularities.

"Annamalai has made defamatory statements against me – someone who has been in public life for over 60 years without evidence," Baalu had said, accusing Annamalai of attempting to tarnish his image.

Baalu had personally appeared before the court during the trial. The DMK leader officially withdrew the case today.

The MP was said to have withdrawn the case following consultation with his legal advisors. The decision comes in the wake of Annamalai launching his own outfit - We The Leaders - after quitting the BJP.

During his tenure as BJP state president, Annamalai had accused many DMK leaders of corrupt practices and claimed that they had amassed wealth disproportionate to their income.
