Kerala HC junks PIL against Velappally Natesan's selection for Padma Bhushan

Kochi, Jul 1 The Kerala High Court on Wednesday dismissed a PIL opposing the Padma Bhushan conferred on SNDP Yogam general secretary Velappally Natesan.

A bench of Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Syam Kumar V M rejected the public interest litigation (PIL) moved by the Sree Narayana Dharma Prabodhana Samrakshna Samithi after Natesan was selected for the award.

The detailed order giving reasons is awaited.

Natesan, a prominent Ezhava leader and general secretary of the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam, was conferred the country's third-highest civilian award on June 23 by President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan for his contributions to social service in Kerala.

The trust, in its PIL, had claimed that the SNDP Yogam leader does not deserve to be selected for the award, as he is an accused in several corruption cases.
