Thane, Jul 14 Days after his daughter-in-law alleged domestic cruelty and filed a police complaint, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Vinayak Raut and his family members on Tuesday moved the district court here seeking anticipatory bail.

The application was filed by Raut, a former MP; his wife Shamal, son Gitesh, relative Aaba Raut, and matchmaker Harishchandra Ghadi.

The court is scheduled to hear the plea on July 23.

A First Information Report has been registered at Kapurbawdi police station here on a complaint filed by Girija Raut, the estranged wife of Raut's son Gitesh, against the Sena (UBT) leader and others under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act for alleged physical and mental torture and also for allegedly subjecting her to occult rituals.

As per the complainant, her marriage was arranged with Gitesh in December 2017 despite the Raut family knowing that he was unable to have physical relations. She also alleged she was beaten up when she questioned the lack of physical relationship, and was subjected to black magic rituals by two self-proclaimed godmen on the pretext of removing "external obstacles".

Denying all the allegations, Vinayak Raut said on Sunday that divorce proceedings were already going on, but during the negotiations between the lawyers, Girija Raut made extravagant demands. He also refuted the charges of black magic, saying these allegations were being levelled to put pressure on the family.
