Thane, Jul 6 A court in Maharashtra's Thane district has acquitted a 35-year-old man accused of stabbing his nephew, after the victim turned hostile and claimed his injuries were caused by a fall while being intoxicated.

Sessions judge R D Sawant acquitted Arun Bhikaji Pathare, a resident of Uthalsar, of charges under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Arms Act.

As per the case details, the incident occurred on March 25, 2024, when the accused allegedly stabbed Aditya Babu Gaikwad (27) with a kitchen knife.

During the trial, both the victim and his mother, who was the complainant in the case, failed to support the prosecution.

The judge noted that the victim claimed that he fell and sustained a stomach injury, and hence, the alleged seizure of his clothes with blood stains will not further the prosecution's case.

The court ordered the cancellation of Pathare's bail bonds and directed his acquittal.
