Bengaluru, May 5 Karnataka High Court on Tuesday stayed the FIR registered against BJP leader D N Jeevaraj, who was declared winner from Sringeri assembly constituency on May 3, three years after the elections.
The assembly seat was represented by the Congress’ candidate T D Raje Gowda, but on Jeevaraj’s petition, the High Court had ordered the recounting of votes.
After the recounting of postal ballots, Jeevaraj was declared the winner.
The FIR was registered against Jeevaraj based on a complaint by a Congress election agent Sudhir Kumar Murolli on May 3, who alleged that there was tampering with the postal ballots by Jeevaraj, two gazetted rank officers Vedamurthy and K N Ramesh from Chikkamagaluru and unknown others.
The bench presided by Justice V Srishananda stayed the FIR and directed the state government to place the material before the court.
